Kill Your Heroes. I was intrigued by it even before I read the summary just by the title. Though it was two hundred thousand words I still decided to read it, or at least give it a try and I was not disappointed. A story so amazing I found myself unable to stop reading. This story written by ‘Evil Is A Relative Term’ takes a weak and overlooked character and showcases her growth in a realistic and slightly dark way that’s fuelled by the instinct to survive. The protagonist starts of just like the original writer wrote here but quickly changes through circumstances into someone completely different to how she is originally. The author of this FanFiction then creates scenarios which drives the girl to disregard all her morals, beliefs and ideologies in order to simply survive these encounters.
Those who Walk the Realm of the Dead. Again, a compelling title though unlike Kill Your Heroes the characters start off completely unlike they are in the original work. Also there are a few changes to the overall plot that is different too that are only explained through the later chapters. Though I did enjoy it, the main character came off as slightly too overpowered from the beginning and mostly the piece felt like it was merely a constant line of character cameos showing off the fact that this character was meeting all of these others that were powerful in this world. It also lacked in emotional empathy, though whether that was because the character wasn’t known enough for you to care, if it was because the chapter wasn’t very detail or if it was because the protagonist did not feel the loss is unclear.
The Last one Alive. This FanFiction is a very interesting story that is told in a very unique way. Told in the perspective of a woman who is the last of a legendary team alive as she tells a group of children in a class her story it jumps from her standing in front of them verbally saying what happened to a flashback. It’s prompted by the children asking questions in each chapter or comments she’s made then explanations through her flashbacks. It also differs from the other two in the fact that, though like ‘Those who Walk the Realm of the Dead’ the chapters are short, they are still interesting enough like ‘Kill your Heroes’. Though usually I do not like stories where I go in knowing the ending, each chapter was interesting and uniquely done enough so that I did find it quiet enjoyable.
With my own piece of FanFiction writing I hope to emulate mostly the first and last FanFictions. I’d like to write a short piece told it the perspective of a character who is contemplating past events with a new perspective on what had happened. Someone who is strong and is trying to recreate that same strength into her daughter.
